Arcus 1856 appoints active underwriter

Alex Shepherd joins syndicate from RenaissanceRe

London, 11 July 2019 – Arcus Syndicate 1856 (Arcus 1856) has today announced the appointment of Alex Shepherd as active underwriter for the syndicate, with immediate effect.

In this role, Shepherd is responsible for all underwriting activities conducted across the syndicate’s property reinsurance and specialty lines portfolio. He replaces David Booth, director of underwriting for Barbican Managing Agency Limited, who was appointed interim active underwriter in July 2018.

Shepherd joins Arcus 1856 from RenaissanceRe Syndicate 1458 where he was head of property. Prior to this, he was a deputy property underwriter at Canopius and also worked at ACE Global Markets. He began his insurance career in the broking sector in 1998 within the international property division at Sedgwick.

Lloyd’s approves business plan with increase in property insurance capacity

London, 13 November 2018 – Arcus Syndicate 1856 (Arcus 1856) has today announced that it has received approval from Lloyd’s for its 2019 business plan.
The business plan sees Arcus 1856 maintain its focus on all current business lines across the Syndicate’s property and specialty portfolio. In addition, there will be an increase in capacity for property insurance.

Commenting on the approval, Adrian Gfeller, managing director, Arcus 1856, said: “We are delighted to have received approval for our 2019 business plan.
